The Regional program of scholarships of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences Announces the launch of the competition of projects of research CLACSO-SIDA 2013 aimed at researchers in Latin America and the Caribbean on studies on public policies in Latin America and the Caribbean

This contest is a new initiative which aims to build bridges between social science research and the development of public policies in the countries of the region, in order to contribute to the construction of just and democratic societies.

It aims to carry out studies of specific cases of political development or recently implemented at local, regional or national levels. Expected analysis arising from the winning proposals talk discussions and the guidelines of policy at the current juncture, and resulting contributions for those who work in public settings.

Following the General guidelines of the programme, is intended to promote the work of Member centers of the network researchers and strengthen the support for research in countries of the region with fewer opportunities for the development of academic life. Will award, above all and most importantly, the quality and viability of the selected projects; but it will also take into account the thematic distribution of the proposals and will be special care in ensuring adequate institutional, regional and gender representation at the time of choosing fellows who will be incorporated into the program.

Finally, this initiative seeks to stimulate and strengthen the articulation between research projects presented within the framework of this competition and the applicants activities in their respective institutions and countries in connection with teaching and research or management, the formulation of policies or the social intervention.

In order to encourage wider participation of researchers and, simultaneously, the more rigorously in the research design and outcomes arising from it, this call is directed at researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean supported by centres members of CLACSO. Individual and group exhibitions, presentations will be accepted up to 3 researchers of the latter.

Projects submitted must aim to develop a quality research that provides a rigorous analysis of concrete policy chosen, based on empirical work. In a more formal sense, the management of this contest will take place through an integrated registration and online assessment system especially developed for this call.

Registration for the competition will remain open until 13: 00 hours (Buenos Aires, Argentina) of the day Monday, April 15, 2013. The international jury will meet in May to evaluate the submissions received and the opinion will be unveiled publicly at the end of the meeting. It is essential that applicants are able to carry out their investigations between June 1 and November 30, 2013 and deliver the final report at the end of this period.

In the framework of this call will be selected 20 projects, each of which will receive a grant of USD 7,000 (seven thousand US $) 1 for the development of the proposed project and the preparation of a final report which will be evaluated by an external expert. Proposals can be submitted individually or collectively, the latter up to 3 researchers. Each researcher can only participate with a proposal in each of the CLACSO-SIDA grants program competition

It is essential that all applicants are capable of performing the research proposal between June 1 and November 30, 2013.
