Scholarships to research in Japan in 2020

Aimed at: Professors and researchers with a doctoral degree.

Program duration: Stays may last from 3 to 6 monthsand must be made between April 2020 and March 2021.

Scholarship benefits

Monthly subsidy of 220,000 Japanese yen (approximately $38,248) for tuition, research materials and maintenance costs.

Medical or accident insurance traveling abroad. Round airfare in economy class.

An initial bedside fund of 120,000 Japanese yen (approximately $20,862 Mexican pesos) is provided.

These are the requirements to apply for

To qualify for this help you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Have an invitation letter from a Japanese institution.
  • Have a doctorate degree, or at the time have an equivalent degree recognized by the Matsumae Foundation.
  • Be 49 years of age or younger at the time of submitting your documents.
  • Have the necessary knowledge of the Japanese or English language for your stay in Japan.
  • Not being or having conducted a research stay in Japan before.
  • Have employment in your home country and return to the country of origin once the scholarship is completed.

You must also submit the following documentation:

  • Application form (signed and with recent photograph).
  • Research project (should contain detailed information on the objective, methodology, content and work plan of the project).
  • Copy of the applicant's most notable publication (if not available in English, include a summary in that language).
  • Curriculum Vitae (include a list of publications and point out in red the one sent as a third document).
  • Letter of recommendation from the employer (the applicant's academic achievements must be recognized, in addition to mentioning the permission for the person concerned to be absent from his or her duties).
  • Certified copies of all degrees obtained (from bachelor's to doctoral degrees, including English translation).
  • Letter of invitation from the destination institution (must mention the period of stay, the research project, the facilities available, as well as the accommodation under the Matsumae Foundation Scholarship Program.
