Since 1982, la Caixa has offered several scholarship programmes to enable students to pursue graduate work in Spain and abroad. This year, la Caixa has selected Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) for its distinction as a center of excellence Severo Ochoa and, thus, offers five annual scholarships to PhD students renewable up to four years.

the program is aimed at students who have completed up to the month of September 2013 studies in computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences or related areas to the Center’s research activities.
BSC-CNS is at the service of the international scientific community and industry which require High Performance Computing resources. Multidisciplinary research and facilities – equipment including computer MareNostrum – BSC-CNS made an international centre of excellence in e-science.
the training programme will have a duration of four years to complete the dissertation. The scholarship is renewable annually and will have a duration of 2 + 2 years. Therefore, the first two years will be covered by the grant, once this initial period will be assessed the renewal for a maximum period of two years through a contract of employment.
grant will be 18.069 euros gross per year during the first two years and 26,700 euros gross per year during the next two years of work, will include social security contributions during the four years.
recipients of these grants will receive additional funding of 1,500 euros per year during the period of grant and 1,700 euros a year during the term of the contract. This funding is intended to cover tuition fees of doctorate, as well as the costs of attendance at congresses, training or any other activity related to the research or academic winners.
the program is aimed at students (Spaniards and foreigners) who have completed in 2013 September one of the following options:
to) studies leading to an official Spanish (or in another country of the European area of higher education) degree in computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences or related areas and have 300 credits (ECTS) of an official university degreeof which at least 60 must correspond to master level.
b) title in a non-Spanish University adapted to the European space of education Superior to giving access to doctoral studies in computer science, biology, biochemistry, physics, environmental sciences or related areas.
students, researchers and PhD students who have had a scientific relationship with the Center for more than six months (before the deadline) are not eligible for these scholarships.
