The Inter-American Commission’s rights human (IACHR) of the Organization of American States (OAS) announces a grant for opportunities for young professional lawyers from Member States of the OAS to know and apply the mechanisms of the Inter-American system of human rights protection with regard to the rights of lesbians, gays and transgender personsbisexual and intersex.

nominations can be made until June 15, 2013 and start and end dates are August 1, 2013 to July 15, 2014.

the objective of the programme is to support the work of the unit for the rights of lesbians, gays and transgender, bisexual people and intersex of the Inter-American Commission, under the supervision of specialists during the period of the Fellowship; and at the end of the grant, submit to the Executive Secretariat of the IACHR of a detailed report on the proceedings.


be a citizen of a Member State of the OAS;
Being bilingual in languages Spanish and English (enclose certificate attesting it) knowledge of Portuguese or French desirable;
Be graduated in law at an officially accredited University (send a copy of the title and grades obtained);
Having received a university diploma in law after January 1st, 2006;
Demonstrable professional interest in the legal area of human rights, specifically in the field of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people;
Be registered as an attorney before the courts or the corresponding trade union organization, and in failing to indicate the cause; and
Submit a written work of up to five pages not edited by another person, on a topic of interest from the applicant in the field of the rights of lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual people and intersex.

Curriculum vitae
Certificate accrediting the second language
Copy of the law degree and obtained qualifications
Proof of registration as an attorney before the courts or the respondent Trade Union (if applicable)
Work written up to five pages

the IACHR provides a stipend of US$ 3,000.00 per month during 2013 and US$ 3,200.00 per month during 2014. The total to receive during the Fellowship will be US$ 35,800.00 11½ months. With that stipend, the fellow is responsible for acquire coverage of health of your choice for the time of duration of the scholarship, must formally prove the aforementioned acquisition to the Executive Secretariat of the IACHR the first day of the scholarship.
