The application deadline is 28 August 2015. This studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16, updated each year).
Studentship is offered for three years. UK/EU and international students can apply for the scholarship.
Apply for top 2015 scholarships and financial aid positions before application deadlines. One studentship is very generously funded by Ser Cymru National Research Network. The PhD project will investigate the integration of two semiconductor technologies for solar energy harvesting, photovoltaics (PV) and thermoelectrics (TE). Around 50% of the solar spectrum is comprised of waste heat which is not utilisable by crystalline Silicon PV materials. TE modules can utilise a proportion of the waste heat to generate power and increase solar energy harvesting, or it can be used to pump heat to reduce the PV cell temperature and increase integrated device efficiency. This Ser Cymru NRN funded project links into a large EPSRC SUPERGEN Solar challenge grant with consortium members in Glasgow, Exeter & Manchester. There is also industrial links to a World leading semiconductor manufacturer.
